Roman Catholic Primary School

Following the example of Jesus, together we learn, love and respect one another to be the best we can be.

Our School vision, mission and aims

Welcome!

St. Michael and St. John's is a Roman Catholic Primary School provided by the Diocese of Salford and is maintained by Local Authority (LA) as a Voluntary Aided School. We are located in the heart of Clitheroe and serve the families of the town and surrounding villages. Priority for admission to the school is given to Roman Catholic children as the school is part of the Salford Diocese Network of Catholic Schools. The school Admission Policy sets out the criteria for admission to the school and is used for all admissions, particularly in the event of oversubscription.

The School is organised into seven teaching groups from Foundation Stage through to Year 6. There are approximately 170 children in the school with an average class size of 30 pupils. The class-teachers are supported by teaching assistants with further support provided for those children who may have an additional learning need.

Our Vision, Mission and Aims

Our School Vision

Within an excellent nurturing ethos and caring community, driven by our mission statement and Catholic values, we demand the highest expectations from all and for all. Through an inspiring and relevant curriculum our children of today become equipped with knowledge and skills to be successful and valued future citizens of tomorrow.

In return we expect each child to give of his or her best…..learners of today, leaders of tomorrow.

Our Mission Statement

In January 2016 we reviewed our mission statement following consultation with children, staff, parents and governors. Our mission statement is

Following the example of Jesus, together we learn, love and respect one another to be the best we can be.

What does our mission statement mean to our children?

It means that we are to follow the teachings of Jesus through the Catholic Life & Mission of the school.

What will this look like in our school?

We live it out through our school values and Christian values. Aspirations Love Respect Courage Unity

These values are directed related to our mission statement and help St Michael and St John’s to be a happy and joyful place to pray and learn together.

Dojos are linked to the school values and are consistent across classes. And we ask ourselves – WWJD (What Would Jesus Do?)

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and all your mind. Love your neighbour as yourself.

                                                                                                                       Matthew 22:37-40

Do to others as you would have them do to you

                                                                                                                                  Luke 6:31

School Aims

Learn...  We encourage our children to achieve their true potential and to take full advantage of all opportunities offered to equip them for their spiritual and educational journey.

Love…  We believe that each child is a unique creation belonging to God and made in His image.  We want our children to recognise this, as they develop their self-esteem and build relationships.

Respect…  We support our children in appreciating their individual talents and in valuing the gifts given to others. We encourage the children to recognise that they are all equally valued within school and the wider community.

Values

Our values are linked to our dojos (in house school reward system) and they are Aspirations, Love, Respect, Courage, Unity. Children are awarded dojos when out and about around school for showing any one of these values which help support our mission statement.

Click on the document below to see how these values may be visible around our school.

Curriculum Driver

With faith at the heart of our curriculum at St. Michael & St. John’s, we will appreciate, understand and utilise the diverse culture, history and geography of our unique environment. We will prepare our children through memorable experiences for their role, in an ever changing society.
