Faith & PE
"We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us."
Pupils at SSMJ recognise the close connections faith has with PE. At SSMJ children participate in 2 hours weekly high quality PE and sporting activities. Our PE programme incorporates a variety of sports to ensure all children develop the confidence, tolerance and the appreciation of their own and others’ strengths and weaknesses. This links really well with Fratelli Tutti (October 2020) the words given to us by Pope Francis which means “all brothers and sisters”. It highlights that competitive sporting nature and the need to, even in sport take care of our 'brothers and sisters'.
We provide opportunities for all children to engage in extra-curricular activities before, during and after school, in addition to competitive sporting events. This is an inclusive approach which endeavours to encourage not only physical development but also well-being.
It is our intent at SSMJ to teach children life skills that will positively impact on their future. We aim to deliver high-quality teaching and learning opportunities that inspire all children to succeed in physical activities. We want to teach children how to cooperate and collaborate with others (Following that 'good example of Jesus'), as part of a team, understanding fairness and equality of play to embed life-long values. We want all pupils to feel they belong as part of a team, believe in their healthy potential and become as physically, socially and emotionally well as they can be. We do this by developing the attitudes, skills and knowledge required and provide memorable experiences throughout a child’s journey within Physical Education.
