Welcome to Year Three
Class Teacher - Mrs Grimshaw
Dear Parents,
Welcome back to school after the half term holidays. I hope you had a restful, joyful time with your families. I know the rain will not have helped!
Here is some information about this term and life in Year 3. Remember to check our Class Dojo,  Facebook  feed or School Twitter for more up to date information.
Subjects
In RE, we are learning about the Eucharist. We will be thinking about the different parts of the Mass and why each part is important to our Church community. The children will learn how important speaking and listening is.
In English we are reading The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. The children will use intonation, tone and volume when reading aloud. The children will draw inferences around the character’s thoughts, feelings and actions, and justify with evidence from the text. We will then create setting and characters based around the same plot for our own stories. The children will then create a recount in the form of a diary.
In Maths we are using measurements to find lengths and perimeters. The children will be using rulers to estimate and measure objects around the room. We will be looking at the relationship between mm, cm and m. They will compare lengths and use this to work out real life problems. We will then move onto fractions and learn how to find halves, quarters and thirds and finally count fractions.
P.E
P.E. will take place on a  Tuesday and Friday  and your child is able to come to school wearing their PE/sports kits. They will need trainers and a jumper or cardigan. Reminder, no earrings please.

Water bottles
Please ensure your child has a  named  water bottle in school. They will be able to fill up their water bottle as required throughout the school day.

Homework
Homework and spellings will be sent out on a Friday and due in the following Friday.

Reading
Reading is of high  importance  so we all need to listen to your child read as often as possible. The children will be able to change their books after they have finished and a parent has signed their reading record.

All weather
Please  could I remind all parents to send a coat into school every day. The weather is  unpredictable  and we are trying to keep the children playing outside as much as possible.

If your child is off school due to Covid reasons, please access the Year  3  CV Home Learning page on the website where activities will be uploaded. Please upload their work to their own class dojo portfolio.

Any question or problems, please message me via class dojo and I will do my best to respond rapidly.

Thank you,
Mrs Grimshaw
Spellings are tested weekly.
Times tables are really important and children are expected to know their 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 times tables by the end of Year 3. Please practise these with your child as often as possible.
Children are encouraged to behave well in class through consistent praise, stickers, dojos, raffle tickets, certificates and prizes.
