Dear Parents,

Welcome back to school after the Christmas holidays. I hope you had a restful, joyful time with your families.

Here is some information about this term and life in Year 3. Remember to check our Class Dojo,  Facebook  feed or School Twitter for more up to date information.

Subjects

In RE, we are learning about journeys. We will be thinking about the highlights of our year and we will be relating this to the Church calendar. The children will learn about the Liturgical year and what significant feasts we celebrate.

In English we are looking at Narrative based on Stig of the Dump by Clive King. The children will read and innovate their own plot. The children will have the chance to explore the book, the characters and the setting. We will move onto studying poems on a caveman theme. In Maths, we will continuing our learning on multiplication and division.

We will learn about money and counting pence and pounds. The children will add and subtract money and then learn how to give change.

The children will learn about statistics, making tally charts, bar charts and pictograms.

P.E

P.E. will take place on a  Tuesday and Friday  and your child is able to come to school wearing their PE/sports kits. They will need trainers and a jumper or cardigan. Reminder, no earrings please.

Water bottles

Please ensure your child has a  named  water bottle in school. They will be able to fill up their water bottle as required throughout the school day.

Homework

Homework and spellings will be sent out on a Friday and due in the following Friday.

Reading

Reading is of high  importance  so we all need to listen to your child read as often as possible. The children will be able to change their books after they have finished and a parent has signed their reading record.

All weather

Please  could I remind all parents to send a coat into school every day. The weather is  unpredictable  and we are trying to keep the children playing outside as much as possible.

If your child is off school due to Covid reasons, please access the Year  3  CV Home Learning page on the website where activities will be uploaded. Please upload their work to their own class dojo portfolio.

Any question or problems, please message me via class dojo and I will do my best to respond rapidly.

Thank you,

Mrs Grimshaw

Spellings are tested weekly.

Times tables are really important and children are expected to know their 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 times tables by the end of Year 3. Please practise these with your child as often as possible.

Children are encouraged to behave well in class through consistent praise, stickers, dojos, raffle tickets, certificates and prizes.
