Welcome to Year 1!

Class Teacher - Miss Hodgson

Teaching Assistant- Mrs Hussain

Dear Parents,

Welcome to YEAR 1!

I hope you have had a lovely holiday.  Here is some information about this term. Remember to check out our School Twitter Feed or Class Dojo for more up to date information. We will update our website regularly with key information.

P.E

P.E. will take place on a Monday and a Thursday. On these days, please can your child come dressed in their PE kit with the correct coloured T-shirt for their team. If the weather is cooler, they can wear dark navy or black joggers/leggings and they can come in trainers. This is not a non-uniform day and we would like your support with this.

Water bottles

Please ensure your child has a water bottle in school. They will be able to fill up their water bottle as required throughout the school day.

Homework

Your child will be given homework and a set of spellings to learn each week. The homework and spellings will be due in for the following Friday.  This will be available on the school website (In our Class Pages).

Our Maths Homework will focus on KIRFS (Key Instant Recall Facts). Numbots should also be encouraged outside of school.

Reading

Reading is of high importance so we all need to listen to your child read as often as possible. The children will be able to change their books after they have finished and a parent has signed their reading record.

Mass

Whole School Mass will take place on Thursday 15th September where you are more than welcome to join us.

If you have any queries please do not hesitate to ask.

Thank you in anticipation of your support,

Miss Hodgson

Spellings are tested weekly.

When used in Year 1, number bonds forge the number sense needed for early primary students to move to addition and subtraction. As students progress, number bonds become an essential mental problem-solving strategy. Number bonds let students split numbers in useful ways. They show how numbers join together, and how they break down into component parts. Please practise these with your child as often as possible.
