On Wednesday 8th March, Rachael Dodgson from the UK Parliament Outreach Programme delivered an assembly to our KS2 children all about the life in the House of Commons. We learnt how MP’s were voted into Parliament, the roles of the MPs, how laws are passed and the difference between the House of Lords and The House of Commons. That same afternoon, Rachael delivered a debate workshop to the KS2 Student Council and Year 6. They were actively involved in a debate about “All pupils should walk to school at least once a week.” The children formed a fake House of Commons with a speaker. They addressed the speaker in the correct manner and used strong and factual arguments for and against.
