How can you put others before yourself? Think about how you would like to be treated. |
Task- create a poster to show examples of thinking of others before yourself.
Analysis of novel opening / description of Emporium: Toolkit for description of shop
Re-read the opening of the novel ‘Prologue’ (pages 7-10) and the description of the interior of the shop in Chapter 1, ‘A Chance Encounter’ (Pages 13, ‘The Shop was a cave…’ to14, “See?” he said,’) with the children. This time ask the children
to think about what techniques and skills the author, Ross Mackenzie, has used to make the opening exciting / describe the shop.
Compile a list of techniques the author has used, this may include features, such as:
- Noun phrases to describe the shop
- Not revealing everything at once (a sense of mystery – keep the reader guessing)
- Vocabulary synonymous with intrigue and mystery: ‘curious’, ‘strange’ etc.
- How the opening is structured: The author describes the shop from far away – moving closer: Arrival of shop on street description on exterior of shop description of things emerging from the shop description of interior of shop
CAN YOU NOW CREATE A POSTER TO SHOW OFF THE WRITERS TECHNIQUES IN PREPARATION FOR YOUR OWN STORY?
