Sports Premium 2022/23
This academic year we aim to use the Sports Premium on a number of projects in school. These include:
- Developing participation in girls sport within the school and the wider community.
- Continuing to look for Year 5 children to be able to swim 25m competently.
- Developing our outdoor equipment.
- Targeting our gifted and talented dancers/gymnasts.
Evidence of impact to follow...
Our Sporting Successes...
Congratulations to our Year 5 and 6 Boys Football Team who celebrated winning the Hydnburn and Ribble Valley Tournament!
Year 3 and 4 Football 13.10.2022
The Year 3 and 4 football team participated in the Ribble Valley Schools Cup on the 13th October 2022. They did really well initially, getting through their group with ease; however, they played a really difficult game in the quarter finals and were unfortunately eliminated.
Well done to all involved.
Year 5 and 6 Girls Football
The Year 6 girls have represented the school on two occasions so far this year. The first time in January, they participated in the Ribble Valley Schools Cup. The were great ambassadors for the school but were unfortunately eliminated at the group stage.
In March 2023, they also participated in the first round of fixtures in their league. They played 6 games: winning 3, drawing 1 and losing 2. The currently sit in 5th place out of 13 teams ahead of their second round of fixtures in July.
Well done girls - we are very proud of you!
Sportshall Athletics 12.1.2023
On the 12th January 2023, a select group of Year 5 and 6 children took part in a Sportshall Athletics event at Roefield Leisure Centre.
They participated in several running, jumping and throwing events each with some great individual success. We did not, unfortunately, reach the next phase of the competition.
Well done to all the children involved - you represented the school brilliantly!
Girls' Biggest Football Day 8.3.2023
To mark International Women's Day and the HerGameToo movement, the girls at SSMJ all received a coaching session from myself and Mr Cross.
A great time was had by all with some girls inspired to go an join teams outside of school!
Outdoor Elements 2022
On the 26th, 27th and 28th September the whole school community visited Outdoor Elements. Lots of different activities were completed. These included team building, orienteering, problem solving and challenges and the visit was something we believe was important to offer the children on the back of the pandemic and how this has limited experiences such as these.
